Level 1: The Prologue

The concept behind Start-Select was born several years ago out of one of  many sleepless nights. Lying awake in bed, terrified of what I was going to do with the rest of my life, the 20-something year-old version of me couldn't figure any of it out. In this existential fit, I knew I wanted to do something regarding video games. Like many others my age, I grew up with a Nintendo. Whether it's trying to learn how to hadouken at the local liquor store, waiting in line in front of Best Buy to get a Playstation, or spending an entire weekend in college dedicated solely to beating Ocarina of Time; my life's formative experiences have a backdrop of video games. Then it hit me, there was no place for people like me, who have these experiences, to go and enjoy their favorite hobby. Sure, if you like sports, movies, reading, etc. there are a myriad of places for you to go out and do these things. Yet, a place for mature adults to go play video games with other people who like video games is a completely foreign concept.

Four years and lot of saving later, Start-Select is ready to get off the ground. Start-Select will be a stylish space dedicated to providing gamers both casual and hardcore a place to socialize, relax and have fun. We'll feature a fully equipped bar, a public lounge with multiple stations equipped with the newest video game consoles for everyone to use, and private rooms for rent decked out with state-of-the-art tv's and theatre equipment. Rock Band, WiiSports, Street Fighter 4, Call of Duty, etc. will all be available, along with more specialized games.

I'll be documenting the trials and tribulations of getting this business off the ground and running. Please stay-tuned for updates on the process, from interior concept design to selecting a location.
